UserTesting and UserZoom merged under the UserTesting name in 2023, but that does not mean every customer has the same product access, contract or migration path. UserTesting now supports qualitative and quantitative workflows, including QXscore, while UserZoom remains documented as a named platform. For 2026, compare the capabilities and transition terms available to your team rather than treating the old qualitative-versus-quantitative split as a purchasing rule.
How the two products are related now
The April 2023 merger announcement established the UserTesting company name after the acquisitions by Thoma Bravo. That announcement explains the history; its leadership and customer figures should not be read as a current company profile.

A UserZoom platform page remains available, alongside a UserZoom-to-UserTesting transition guide. A marketing page is not a contractual support commitment or proof that every package is open to new buyers. Ask which platform and edition you can buy, what your existing licence includes, and what happens to studies, recordings and renewal terms during a transition.
For an existing customer, account continuity is a practical evaluation question. Ask for an accountable support contact, migration milestones, training and escalation terms in writing. Test exports and the workflows you rely on before agreeing to a new package.
What each platform does best
UserTesting: fast human reactions
UserTesting supports recorded think-aloud feedback, moderated sessions and quantitative research. The plans page separates Advanced, Ultimate and Ultimate+ editions; card sorting, tree testing, AI features and support vary by edition or plan. Confirm your required methods in the proposal instead of assuming all advertised features are included.
The network can help with recruitment, but a global headline count does not establish the availability of your Australian audience. Ask for a feasibility check using your actual screener, location, devices, accessibility needs and professional criteria. Include recruitment, incentives and replacement policies in the trial.
This can suit a product manager seeking rapid feedback on a checkout or prototype. Turnaround depends on audience availability and study design; a short deadline is not a guaranteed recruitment time.
UserZoom: measurement at scale
The UserZoom platform page describes usability tests, surveys, information-architecture studies, transcripts and charts. Its recruitment page describes demographic filters, partner networks and ways to invite your own participants. Verify the method, audience and collection mode you need; country coverage alone does not guarantee a representative sample or a filled quota.

QXscore combines task success and attitudinal measures on a 0-100 scale and is now documented for UserTesting as well. It is not a UserZoom-only differentiator. Repeated benchmarks need comparable tasks, audiences, success criteria and study conditions, with uncertainty reported. A single composite score does not by itself prove improvement or a competitive advantage.
For mobile research, validate the exact app or prototype, device, operating system and recording method in a pilot. Ask whether your chosen workflow requires SDK integration, a special build, participant installation or moderator support. Check this for the platform you will actually use, rather than carrying over an older UserZoom setup assumption.
Side by side
Check integrations against the exact edition and workflow in your quote. A Figma testing workflow, an exported chart and an analytics-data connection are different capabilities. Trial how a study moves from prototype to evidence to a tracked design decision, including permissions and export access.
What they cost
UserTesting uses sales-led pricing. Its plans page describes Test-based Consumption and Team-based Unlimited within a defined scope. Ask for a written proposal specifying the platform, edition, users, methods, recruitment, services, limits and renewal conditions. "Unlimited" does not remove the agreed scope or feature restrictions.
There is no reliable universal entry price for this comparison. An individual reviewed contract is not a current quote for an Australian team. Build a cost scenario from your expected studies, participants, recruitment difficulty and support requirements, then ask the account team to price that scenario.
For UserZoom or an existing UserZoom GO licence, confirm current availability and support directly. Check survey access, exports, historical recordings, data migration and training. Do not assume an older package name or entitlement transfers unchanged into a UserTesting edition.
Compare the annual commitment with the research you can realistically execute. Include study design, moderation, analysis, recruitment and acting on findings. A lower licence fee has little value if a critical method is missing or the team has no time to use it.

Security and data handling for Australian teams
Start security review with the current Trust Center and the documents covering your proposed product and contract. Request the applicable audit report, certification scope, data-processing terms, subprocessors, retention and deletion controls. A 2023 overview should not establish current coverage. Certification does not by itself make a particular study compliant or authorise collection of sensitive information.

For Australian participants, confirm where recordings, transcripts and AI processing occur, who can access them, and how participant consent and deletion work. Use synthetic data where practical. Your privacy or legal lead should assess the arrangement against the obligations that apply to your business; do not assume local storage or suitability for health information from a general security badge.
Support, usability and what reviewers say
Review scores can suggest questions to investigate, but ratings from different sample sizes and dates are not a controlled comparison. Prioritise recent reviews from teams with similar research needs, then test those concerns in a pilot using your own study.
Confirm onboarding, response times and named support responsibilities in the contract. Ask the supplier to demonstrate a difficult study setup, a recruitment problem and an export workflow. A broad feature list is useful only if your team can operate it and obtain support when a study stalls.
Which one fits your team
- You are a startup validating an idea. Start with the decision and budget. Moderated interviews and a prototype test may be enough for exploratory learning. Use a suitable sample for the question; a small qualitative study cannot estimate population-level success rates. Our usability testing guide offers related methods.
- You have one researcher and a product backlog. Trial end-to-end study creation, recruitment, analysis and sharing in the package offered. Include the time needed to check AI summaries against recordings.
- You run a mature UX team that reports metrics. Verify quantitative methods, QXscore, exports and repeatable benchmarking in the actual platform and edition. Read our usability metrics guide and define comparable tasks and samples before choosing.
- You have no research team. Assign ownership for study design, participant quality, analysis and action. Compare training or a research partner with a software-only licence before committing.
Our perspective
We have watched teams buy a research platform in January and abandon it by April. The tool was never the problem. Nobody owned the questions, the participants were slightly off, and the results arrived as 40 hours of video that no one had time to watch.
At Raw we start from the decision. What are you about to build, change or fund, and what would you need to see to feel confident? Then we choose the method: a Design Sprint when you need an answer in days, user research when you need depth, a UX and CRO audit when you suspect leaks in a live funnel. Our approach is built around research, user testing and data-backed choices, and we work with clients collaboratively rather than handing over a report.
UserTesting and UserZoom are strong instruments. We think of them the way a musician thinks of a good guitar: essential, and only as good as the person playing. If you already own one, we can work inside it. If you do not, you may not need to buy one at all to get the answers you came for.
